Lela Stanley

Policy Advisor, Global Witness

Lela Stanley has been a Policy Advisor with Global Witness’s Asia Forests team since 2015. She now leads the organization’s work in Papua New Guinea, investigating and exposing land rights abuses there and campaigning for reforms to the timber trade driving that crisis. Prior to joining Global Witness, she worked in Conservation International’s Asia-Pacific programs for seven years supporting the development of a transnational Pacific Ocean sustainable governance initiative and community-based conservation areas in Melanesia. She holds an MS in environmental science and technology from the University of Maryland and has carried out field research in Ecuador, Panama, Canada, and the U.S.
